Growing Well – A short gardening course supporting mental health recovery.

For the last three years we’ve been delighted to work with Devon Recovery Learning Community and NHS Partnership Trust to offer this free 5 week course. Sadly with the closure of the College in July 2024 the course isn’t currently running.
We are seeking partners and funding to continue this course so if you have any suggestions or work with a group who would benefit from this course please get in touch with

Details of the course are as follows:
Join us at Foxhole Community Garden to learn how to sow, grow and use simple propagation techniques to grow herbs, veg and flowers.
We will explore the miracle of living soil, ways to sow seeds and grow plants, propagate and use herbs for cooking and herbcraft.

Each session will incorporate some simple mindfulness techniques such as using short meditations and using the senses of scent, touch and taste as a way of relaxing and becoming more present.

The course will allow you to gain confidence in your ability to gain new skills and grow plants.

Growing plants can provide us with a way of connecting with the wider world around us, understanding natural forces and rhythms.

While learning the techniques we will take time to be to be present in the moment, focusing our attention on the task while a guided discussion of the task will allow us to explore our responses and feelings in relation to the task and some of the broader implications such as the vitality of plants and their ability to thrive.

The day runs from 10 to 2pm.
